(Iba. per nl' 1ci~i~ht: in. of height) "Not r..---The factors in the bottom line give some means of ascertaining the most probable stature, weight, chest-girth, or strength of a man, when only ono of these data is known. They also give modified values when the birthplace of tl,o roan is also known, whether it be in Scotland, Ireland, England, or W;tl('s. The results so obtained are based on the supposition that the proportion between the values of these qualities is constant, which is practically t.ruc for values that do not differ widely from the mean. The method of employing the factors is simple: thus, the first five of -them are the number of inches in height divided by the number of pounds in Wales Ei:gland Ireland Total Empty Total: chiefly Strength: Total: chiefly cb ot-girth: English drawing English military me:.snrenle,it p(mer, as in ,Ira~eSngabow O 6 0 P, Q o O C 0 o~ S lbs. kilos. oo ao o o 05 z'~ Fo 0 z0 o v 0 1 i -I 45- II4.3 4 i 4'I. 1111 7 2 1 1 1 8 _I 4:3-- 109.2 20 fi 9 2 11 2 42- x06'6 67 17 2 3 10 16 2 41- 104'0 76 22 150 68.2 4 3 1 2 33 6 41 5 40- 1or6 128 35 140 63.6 4 3 8 11 62 11 1 4 85 11 39- 99'0 216 63 130 59'1 2 7 9 75 13 1 4 107 14 38- 96.5 330 97 120 54'5 1.5 10 14 19 174 31 8 32 263 34 37- 93'9 442 130 1 10 500 18 12 34 46 304 55 13 53 476 61 -36-- 91'4 -588 -173 100 455 73 46 102 138 492 89 25 101 787 102 35- 88.9 552 162 90 40'9 140 134 182 881 158 36 146 1326 171 34- 86-3 541 158 80 36'4 296 184 , 178--242,_ 1075 194 51 206 -1559 -201 33- 83.8 249 75 -70 -30'8 -387 } 153 207 1240 223 57 231 1623 210 32- 81.2 117 35 60 27'3 250 157 - 68 92 694 125 42 170 867 112 31-- 78'7 40 12 50 22.7 69 43 23 31 338 61 7 29 390 50 30- 76'2 33 10 40 x8'1 is lu 10 13 133 24 1 4 152 20 29- 73'6 5 2 30 X3-6 3 3 2 3 26 5 5 20 34 4 28- 71.1 1 2 2 27- 68_5 1 1000 555: 1(H 5) 217 1000 7749 1000 Total 3407 1W O Total 1497 1000 - 15:10 154.1 158.2 Average i0s.. 36'46 Average lbs. 79,6 70'5 70.0 ant. . g2.6 „ kilos. -36-2 _ 71 9. 150.0 1550.0 1511110 Mean inches. 36.50 Mean lbs. 77'5 68'2 68'2 70'5 „ cal. 92'7 „ kilos.. 35'2 l l2-375 2-:101 2.270 2.323 Girth- hgt. 542 Stngth. -ht. 1.182 (firth = wgt. 235 Stngth.-wt. 513 165'3 75'1 160.0 72'7 2.406 weight, in the five following cases, natives of Scotland, Ireland, England, and Wales, and in the British Isles generally. The factor for Scotland is 0'416, consequently a Scotehman whose weight is 150 lbs. has most probably a height of 150 x 0'416 inches, or 62.4 inches. Similarly, in the next group of pounds of weight divided by inches of height, the factor for Englishmen is 2.301, consequently an Englishman 66 inches in height should weigh 66 x 2-301 lbs., or 152 lbs. In the same way we may calculate the other elements by the remaining factors. 1883. s
