While at Cambridge, of which I shall speak in a separate chapter, I attended a few lectures, chiefly by Dr. Haviland, in order to obtain some more of the necessary certificates to qualify me for undergoing an examination and obtaining a doctor's degree. After I left Cambridge, some more lectures had still to be attended, so I was sent for a short time as a pupil at St. George's Hospital. My dear father's death then occurred, as will be mentioned farther on, and the direction of my life became changed.
